Today’s buyers have plenty of options. Not all of them are created equal. We’ve curated a list of our favorites, starting with the Mercedes Benz E-Class.
1. Mercedes Benz E-Class
The Mercedes Benz E-Class stands out even among luxury midsize sedans for its refinement, opulence, and innovation. The E350 features a 2.0L turbo 4-cyl engine and 23-hp electric motor that produce a combined 255 hp, while the E450 gets a 3.0L turbo I-6. Both powertrains are quite potent.
For most luxury car buyers, it’s not what’s under the hood that’s most important but how it feels in the cabin. The Mercedes Benz E-Class focuses on passenger comfort, handsome styling, and state-of-the-art features, including available advanced augmented reality in-dash navigation.
2. Audi A7
The Audi A7 offers a pleasant mix of performance, comfort, and refinement with a unique hatchback design. Beneath the hood, a 355-hp turbo V6 provides enough power for a relatively sporty ride.
Upgrade to the Premium Plus trim level to get a truly luxurious experience in the Audi A7. Buyers willing to pay the extra money will get wireless charging pads, surround-view cameras, adaptive cruise control, and a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system.
3. BMW 5-Series
BMW’s 5-series midsize sedans feature modern looks and cutting-edge technology. The 5-series isn’t as large or luxurious as the 7-series, but it still has much to offer. The 530i, 540i, and 550e all feature different powertrain and drivetrain options, so choose carefully.
The BMW 530i provides a dose of sportiness, the 550e is an eco-conscious hybrid, and the 540i skews heavily toward luxury rather than sportiness. All have roomy cabins equipped with automatic climate control and a two-screen digital panel with a reconfigurable gauge display.
4. Genesis G80
The Genesis G80 isn’t the best-known midsize luxury sedan, but it deserves a spot on the list thanks to its sleek styling and upscale detailing. Equipped with either a 2.5L turbo I-4 or a 3.5L V-6, it provides a relaxed, effortless ride that’s comfortable but less athletic than its rivals.
Inside the G80, the cabin is elegant and well-designed, with a streamlined dashboard, rich-looking materials, and plenty of space. Features like a large OLED display, ambient interior lighting, and heated/ventilated seats add to the Genesis G80’s appeal.
Which Is the Best Luxury Midsize Sedan?
The four luxury sedans introduced above are our favorites for good reasons. They all provide a comfortable ride, good driving dynamics, and upscale interiors.
In our opinion, the Mercedes Benz E-Class outperforms its rivals in elegant styling and intuitive modern technology. However, buyers must make up their own minds, so don’t be afraid to head to the dealerships for test drives.
